Modafinil 400 mg is a pharmaceutical product indicated for the promotion of wakefulness in adults with specified sleep disorders. It can be prescribed for daytime sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnoea or shift work sleep disorder. Modafinil has influence on multiple neurotransmitter systems responsible for wakefulness and includes, in particular, dopaminergic transmission.

The dose of 400 mg per day is quite high and may not be adequate for each patient. Proper dose of modafinil depends on the underlying disease, patient’s individual reaction, previous diseases and concomitant therapy.

Adverse effects may include headache, nausea, dizziness, nervousness or anxiety, dry mouth, insomnia. Serious skin or hypersensitivity reactions may also occur rarely. Interaction with other drugs may take place, in particular, modafinil reduces efficiency of hormonal contraceptives.
