The high-end electric SUV market in India is going to witness the entry of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric. Luxury, cutting-edge technology, impressive performance and long-range capability on a single package, the electric SUV is poised to appeal to those seeking a high-end alternative to traditional petrol and diesel SUVs. The Most Notable Feature Is Its Claimed Range Off The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Comes With 715 km Range under the WLTP testing cycle.

Mercedes-Benz has announced that the GLC Electric will be launched in India on November 4, 2026. The India-spec model will be locally assembled at the company's Chakan plant in Pune and will be available in the GLC 400 4MATIC variant. Bookings are likely to start from next month.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Comes With 715 km Range

The main highlight of the upcoming electric SUV is its claimed driving range of 715 km. It comes with a 94kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup in the GLC 400 4MATIC.

Mercedes-Benz's official environmental figures indicate an electric range of 568 to 715 km under WLTP, varying by configuration and conditions. The company further explains that the real range could be different due to driving mode, climate, battery age, air conditioning usage, tyres, route, load and other factors.

So the 715 km number should be considered a maximum certified WLTP figure and not a certain real-world distance. Still, ranges like that would likely make the electric GLC especially attractive for buyers who frequently take long trips.

Powerful Dual-Motor Electric Setup

The GLC 400 4MATIC is equipped with two electric motors that provide all-wheel drive. The combined output is around 360kW, equivalent to approximately 489bhp, while maximum torque is rated at 800Nm.

Mercedes-Benz claims that the electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds. This is notable considering the vehicle's large SUV dimensions and substantial weight.

The all-wheel-drive setup can also provide additional traction and stability. For a premium SUV, this combination of strong acceleration and all-wheel drive is designed to offer both performance and everyday usability.

94kWh Battery and Advanced EV Technology

The electric GLC is built around a 94kWh NMC battery pack. This large battery is one of the main reasons behind its long claimed driving range.

Mercedes-Benz has also developed the vehicle around an 800-volt electrical architecture. Higher-voltage architecture can support faster charging and is becoming increasingly common among premium electric vehicles.

The company says the GLC Electric can support DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Under specified conditions, it can add up to 305 km of WLTP range in approximately 10 minutes. Mercedes-Benz also quotes a 10 to 80 percent charging time of around 22 minutes.

For long-distance travellers, fast charging could be almost as important as the maximum range. A vehicle that can travel a long distance and recharge quickly can reduce the time spent at charging stations during road trips.

Premium and Futuristic Interior

The new GLC Electric is not only about battery range and performance. Mercedes-Benz has also focused heavily on the cabin experience.

One of the most noticeable features is the large 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that stretches across the dashboard. The system brings together multiple digital displays and gives the cabin a distinctly futuristic appearance.

The electric GLC also benefits from Mercedes-Benz's latest software and connectivity technologies. The company is increasingly treating software as an important part of its next-generation vehicles, with digital interfaces, connected functions and driver-assistance technologies playing a bigger role.

Advanced Suspension and Steering

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric also focuses on ride comfort and driving dynamics. The model features AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent suspension control.

Rear-wheel steering is another technology available with the electric GLC. The rear wheels can turn in the opposite direction at lower speeds to reduce the effective turning circle, helping make a large SUV easier to manoeuvre in tight urban areas.

The rear-axle steering system can turn the rear wheels by up to 4.5 degrees, with the turning circle reduced from around 12.1 metres to 11.2 metres according to published specifications.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric India Launch

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric is scheduled to launch in India on November 4, 2026. The company has also confirmed that the SUV will be locally assembled at its Chakan plant in Pune.

For the Indian market, the initial version will be the GLC 400 4MATIC. The decision to assemble the vehicle locally is significant because it allows Mercedes-Benz to bring the global electric SUV to India relatively quickly while producing it alongside other vehicles at its Indian facility.

Mercedes-Benz has said that the India launch will come approximately six months after the model went on sale in Europe, making it one of the quickest global-to-India introductions for a locally assembled model from the company.

Design and SUV Practicality

The new electric GLC retains the familiar SUV proportions associated with the GLC name while introducing a more futuristic design language.

The India-spec model has a wheelbase of 2,972mm, while its overall dimensions provide a spacious cabin suitable for family and long-distance use. Mercedes-Benz has also focused on improving rear-seat space, which remains an important consideration for Indian luxury SUV buyers.

The combination of a premium cabin, SUV practicality and long electric range could make the GLC Electric relevant to customers who want an EV without giving up the comfort and road presence associated with a luxury SUV.

Safety and Driver Assistance Technology

Safety and driver assistance are also important areas for the new electric GLC. Mercedes-Benz offers its MB.DRIVE driver-assistance technology, which uses multiple cameras, radar sensors and ultrasonic sensors.

Depending on the equipment and market specification, the system can support functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane-change assistance, steering assistance and automated parking.

Other technology features include DIGITAL LIGHT, parking assistance and additional systems designed to support the driver in different road conditions.

What Does the 715 km Range Mean for Buyers?

The claimed 715 km range could be one of the biggest selling points of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric. For city users, such a range could mean fewer charging stops during normal weekly driving.

For highway users, however, real-world range should be considered separately from the official WLTP figure. High-speed driving, extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, air-conditioning, vehicle load and tyre selection can all influence energy consumption.

Mercedes-Benz itself states that the actual range may differ from the WLTP figure because of driving style, ambient conditions, battery ageing, auxiliary equipment, tyres, load and route profile.

This means buyers should look at the 715 km figure as a standardized benchmark rather than an exact everyday range.

A Strong Step in Mercedes-Benz's EV Strategy

The electric GLC represents an important step in Mercedes-Benz's broader transition toward electric mobility. The company has been developing new electric architectures, battery technologies and software platforms to compete in the rapidly growing premium EV market.

The new 800-volt architecture and fast-charging capability demonstrate that Mercedes-Benz is focusing on the complete EV experience rather than simply increasing battery size.

For customers, this means the electric GLC combines several important EV features: long range, quick charging, strong performance, all-wheel drive and premium technology.

Conclusion

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Comes With 715 km Range, making its long-distance capability one of the most important highlights of the upcoming luxury electric SUV. The GLC 400 4MATIC combines a 94kWh battery, dual electric motors, all-wheel drive and approximately 489bhp, while its 800-volt architecture enables high-speed DC charging.

With its launch scheduled for November 4, 2026, and local assembly in India, the electric GLC is set to become an important addition to Mercedes-Benz's Indian EV portfolio. Its 715 km WLTP range, futuristic interior, advanced suspension, fast charging and powerful electric drivetrain make it a noteworthy premium SUV.

However, buyers should remember that the 715 km figure is a certified WLTP maximum and real-world range will vary according to driving conditions. Ultimately, the combination of range, charging speed, luxury and technology will determine how well the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric fits the needs of India's premium EV buyers.
