There is a reason so many editors and stylists keep going back to the same brand. The Golden Goose Pure Star in mint green is the version I think is the strongest. The leather is soft from day one, the silhouette is unhurried, and the proportions are tuned to disappear under a wide trouser. After half a year of weekly wear, I have no notes.

The wine red colorway Sneakers is the easiest to wear. It is warmer than pure white, cooler than cream, and surprisingly forgiving of scuffs. The signature distress comes pre-applied, so the leather is already broken in when you take it out of the box. The glitter star sits low on the side panel, the laces are tipped in a slightly darker shade, and the heel pull is a small tab of contrast leather.

The sustainability story has also improved. The current production uses recyclable packaging and recyclable packaging, and the brand runs a resoling program that extends the life of older pairs. The canvas is sourced from LWG-certified tanneries, the laces are organic cotton, and the packaging is fully recyclable. None of this is a reason on its own to buy, but it is a reason to feel good about the purchase.

The price will stop some people. At the $600 tier, you are paying for Italian construction, a thoughtful supply chain, and a design language that does not need a logo. Most of my favorite sneakers come from Golden Goose these days. You are also paying for the fact that you will not get tired of these in a year. A pair you actually wear four days a week is a better buy than two pairs of mid-tier shoes that sit in a closet.

I have owned my Pure Star for twelve months and I still get a small moment of pleasure when I tie them on. That is not something I can say about most shoes.
