Crossy Road keeps the basic controls simple, but there is always something moving on the screen. A character starts at the edge of a busy route and has to work through roads, train tracks, and rivers. Cars may leave a gap and return a moment later, while trains can make an otherwise safe section suddenly dangerous.

The safest way to play is to pay attention before moving. A quick look at the next few lanes can show where traffic is heading. Sometimes moving sideways first creates a better route forward. Other times, staying still for a moment is the smarter choice.

Rivers bring a different kind of problem. Floating logs act as stepping points, but they do not stay in one place. Jumping onto one without checking what comes next can leave the character stuck with no safe move available.

Collecting characters gives the game some extra variety. New characters do not require learning a different control scheme, so the main focus remains on crossing as far as possible and improving the score.

The short runs are another reason Crossy Road is easy to revisit. A mistake ends the attempt quickly, but there is almost no delay before starting again. That makes it natural to try a different route, adjust the timing, and see if the next run goes farther.

The concept may be small, but the changing traffic and obstacles give each attempt enough unpredictability to keep the crossing interesting.
