Yotpo vs Smile.io for Loyalty Programs

0
64

Smile.io is cheaper to start and puts Klaviyo and VIP tiers at lower published price points. Yotpo Loyalty prices by order volume above 500 orders and keeps reviews and loyalty with one vendor. Yotpo's email and SMS products were decommissioned at the end of 2025, so this is a loyalty-only comparison from both pricing pages, 4 October 2026.

Which one costs less at your order volume?

Smile.io publishes six tiers (Smile.io pricing page, 4 October 2026). Free covers 200 monthly orders. Essential is $15 a month for 500 orders. Standard is $79 for 1,000. Growth is $199 for 2,500 orders, then $20 per additional 100 orders. Plus is $999 a month on annual billing for 7,500 orders, with overage at $5 per 100. Enterprise is quote-only and aimed at retailers over $40M in annual revenue. Smile does not state on the page what happens when a Free, Essential or Standard store exceeds its order limit, so ask before you rely on a lower tier.

Yotpo Loyalty publishes four (Yotpo loyalty pricing page, 4 October 2026). Free is $0 with a basic points campaign and referrals; the pricing page does not show an order cap, but the Shopify App Store listing says it is for stores with fewer than 100 monthly orders. Pro starts at $199 a month, which covers the first 500 orders, then $0.20 per order from 501 to 1,000, $0.10 from 1,001 to 3,000 and $0.05 from 3,001 upward. Premium and Enterprise are custom quotes. The App Store listing shows a slightly different per-order range of $0.08 to $0.20, so treat the bands as indicative and get the quote in writing.

Worked from those published bands, a store doing 1,000 orders a month pays $79 on Smile Standard against $299 on Yotpo Pro. At 2,500 orders it is $199 on Smile Growth against $449 on Yotpo. At 5,000 orders Smile Growth with overage comes to $699 while Yotpo Pro comes to $599, and at 7,500 orders Yotpo's $724 sits below Smile Plus at $999 on annual billing. Up to about 4,000 orders a month Smile is cheaper on these bands; past roughly 4,500, Yotpo's usage pricing is lower.

Which one gives you VIP tiers and Klaviyo sooner?

Price per order is half the decision, because the two vendors gate features differently.

VIP tiers first. Smile's pricing page comparison row places "VIP program" at Standard, $79 a month, along with syncing VIP tiers to Shopify metafields. One caution: Smile's App Store listing highlights "VIP tiers & Points expiry" under Growth at $199, so confirm which tier carries VIP before you sign. On Yotpo, "Loyalty VIP Tiers" sit in Premium, which is a custom quote, not in Pro. If a tiered programme is the point of the exercise, Smile gets you there for a published price and Yotpo requires a sales conversation.

Klaviyo next. Smile allows one integration on Essential at $15, and the pricing page uses Klaviyo as the example, with "Send all emails through Klaviyo" and "Works with Klaviyo Customer Hub" available from Essential upward. Standard allows two integrations and Growth is unlimited. On Yotpo, the App Store listing places "Additional Integrations (Klaviyo, Recharge, etc.)" in Pro at $199. So a Klaviyo store that wants loyalty events in its flows pays $15 on Smile and $199 on Yotpo for the connection.

Where Yotpo wins on features: Pro names fraud prevention and reduced liability and native CRM integrations, and the listing promises 20+ out-of-the-box campaigns. Enterprise adds a cross-brand programme that scales across markets and brands, which Smile's page does not describe. Yotpo also sells Reviews & UGC, so a brand that wants reviews and loyalty from one vendor has that option. Smile's Free plan is the more generous entry point at 200 orders against Yotpo's fewer than 100, and Smile's App Store rating is 4.9 from 4,618 reviews against Yotpo Loyalty's 4.7 from 970 (both listings, 4 October 2026).

Which one fits the rest of your stack?

The biggest change since most comparisons were written is that Yotpo no longer sells email or SMS. Its SMS application page reads "Product Decommissioned", and Yotpo's own blog set full deprecation for 31 December 2025, naming Attentive and Omnisend as migration partners. Yotpo's navigation now lists Reviews & UGC, Loyalty & Referrals and Discover. Any article that frames Yotpo as an all-in-one email, SMS and loyalty suite is out of date. That is not a mark against the loyalty product, but it does mean both vendors now assume you run email and SMS elsewhere, which for most Shopify brands means Klaviyo.

That makes the Klaviyo gating above more important than it looks. A loyalty programme earns its keep when points balances, tier changes and reward reminders show up inside the email and SMS flows the customer already receives. Smile pushes those events through from $15; Yotpo from $199.

Smile is also actively courting Yotpo customers. Its switch page offers free migration and, for brands committing to a year or more, "receive the rest of your Yotpo contract term for free". If you are mid-contract on Yotpo and considering a move, that offer changes the maths; if you are happy on Yotpo, it is a data point about how competitive this market is. Yotpo's own article comparing the three major loyalty apps carries no pricing figures, so the numbers above come from the pricing pages and App Store listings, not from either vendor's comparison content.

On the programmes we run, [BMO NUMBER: insert the share of loyalty redemptions triggered from a Klaviyo flow versus the on-site widget, with the account count and window] is the figure that settles which integration tier a brand needs. Our loyalty programmes team sizes the platform choice against order volume, whether VIP tiers are in scope, and whether reviews should sit with the same vendor. For how to judge whether the programme pays back at all, start with loyalty programme ROI, compare the third option in LoyaltyLion pricing, and if you need the earning rules themselves, loyalty program ideas has them.
