Local SEO for Plumbers, Dentists and Lawyers: The 3 Things That Move the Map

I've worked on local SEO for a lot of different businesses, and the funny thing is, the stuff that moves the needle is pretty much the same whether it's a plumber, a dentist or a law firm.

There are really three things. Get them right and you'll beat most of your competitors, because most of them don't. I sell services for each of these, and I've linked them below, but the steps are what matter.

1. A properly built Google Business Profile

This is the foundation. Your profile is what shows up in the map results, and for service businesses, that's where most of the calls come from.

The most common problems I find are the wrong primary category, missing services, no service areas set, and hardly any photos. A dentist listed under "health" instead of "dentist" is going to struggle, no matter what else they do.

If you'd rather hand this off, my premium GMB listings service builds the profile properly, gives you the login, and includes 12 months of support. That last bit matters more than people think, because Google loves to ask for re-verification at the worst possible moment.

2. Citations that all match

Google checks your business details against directories across the web. If they match, it trusts you more. If they don't, rankings stall.

For a plumber, that means the general directories plus trade-specific ones. For a lawyer, legal directories. For a dentist, health and dental directories. The details have to be identical everywhere.

I do these by hand through my manual local citations service, 30 to 100 per order on proper authority directories.

3. A few relevant links and decent content

Local businesses don't need hundreds of backlinks. A handful of relevant ones, say a guest post on a local news site or an industry blog, can make a real difference. My real outreach guest posts service can place those on real sites with real traffic.

In more competitive cities, some businesses add a few PBN links to strengthen those guest posts. If you go that route, make sure they're indexed, like the John Wick PBN links I offer.

And your service pages need to actually say something. What you do, where you do it, what it costs roughly, what customers usually ask. If writing isn't your thing, a content writing service that understands local SEO will save you a lot of time.

Which one first?

Profile, then citations, then links and content. I've had businesses jump into the Map Pack from the first two steps alone. The links are the cherry on top, not the cake.
